All About Endometriosis

What Is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a serious condition when the tissue that looks more or less like the uterus lining will develop outside of it. Such tissues start to form on your intestines, ovaries, and around the pelvis region. The displaced form of endometrial-like tissue is primarily affected by some changes in the hormones of your menstrual cycle. It can cause major irritation and will turn out to be rather uncomfortable. It indicates that the tissue might expand, thicken, and will break down eventually.

What Are The Various Types Of Endometriosis?

Superficial Peritoneal Lesion

It is considered to be the most common one, where you will have lesions on the peritoneum. It is a thin film that lines up the pelvic cavity.

Endometrioma (Ovarian Lesion)

These are darker versions of the fluid-filled cysts forming deep within your ovaries. These tissues won’t respond well to the treatment and result in damaging healthy ones.

Deeply Infiltrating Endometriosis

Such tissues will grow right under the peritoneum and involve some organs near the uterus areas like the bladder or bowels. Around 1 to 5% of women will have such deeply infiltrating endometriosis.

Endometriosis Stages

There are various stages to measure Endometriosis. Doctors will assign points as per the spread of the endometrial tissues, along with their depth and the areas affected.

  • Stage 1: Here you have smaller implants or small lesions or wounds.
  • Stage 2: There you have more implants than in stage 1.
  • Stage 3: You have multiple deep implants and also small cysts.
  • Stage 4: Here, the issue is widespread and you have deeper implants and thicker adhesions to deal with. There are larger cysts on either one or both ovaries.

Diagnosis of Endometriosis

For diagnosing Endometriosis, doctors have to locate the place and time of the pain. For that, they will address some examinations like a pelvic exam, ultrasound, MRI, or laparoscopy.

After determining the problem from its core, they will start working on the remedy. In case you are trying to conceive even when you have Endometriosis, IVF seems to be the best solution for that.
